Green Recovery: The link between public and private investment

The EU’s co legislators are currently negotiating the EU budget for the next seven years. The budget will be of unprecedented size and importance due to the EU recovery after Covid-19 pandemic. While some of the elements of the future funding negotiations are still up for a discussion, it is clear that all EU institutions agree that it is paramount to align the Europe’s recovery with an overall ambition of green future of the EU.

With 30% of the EU future funding dedicated to climate action and increased efforts of private sector to invest in sustainable activities, this webinar will explore the potential of public and private funding initiatives to meet EU’s climate goals and lead to a fair and successful transition of the EU economy.

In July 2020, the Technical Expert Group on Sustainable Finance (TEG) drafted five principles that should drive the EU budget towards green recovery. These include:

  • Funding for the recovery package to be generated through the issuance of green recovery bonds, issued under the proposed EU Green Bond Standard;
  • Encouraging investments in social, economic and ecosystem resilience;
  • Incorporating the EU Taxonomy in the recovery funding mechanisms;
  • Clear policy signals that will create frameworks to attract private investment;
  • Work towards global Taxonomy.

The webinar will build around these recommendations, look at the role of green investments in the global recovery through currently available tools and practices, as well as discuss best options for maximising private and public funding efforts by tying them together.

The event is finished.
