EU TAXONOMY WORKSHOP SERIES

The EU is on the verge of adopting its first Climate Taxonomies on climate change mitigation and adaptation. In addition, the Platform on Sustainable Finance is expected to finalise soon its recommendations on the taxonomies for the remaining four environmental objectives.

Our two-day conference on 30 June and 1 July will discuss how the next taxonomies on the circular economy, biodiversity and possibly a ‘brown’ and ‘neutral’ taxonomy interact with the existing two taxonomies on Climate Change Adaptation and Climate Change Mitigation. How do we ensure the usability of the entire framework and make sure the right data is available to shape investment decisions? How will the EU’s work fit into the wider international efforts towards sustainable finance?

Our two-day workshop covers five themes:

  • The usability of the taxonomies and access to data.
  • How the policies on circular economy interact with the climate change adaptation and mitigation taxonomies and what will be the key features of the upcoming taxonomy on biodiversity and ecosystems.
  • Assessing how the ‘brown’ and ‘neutral’ activities interrelate with the existing and planned taxonomies.
  • The supervisory perspective.
  • The international dimension.

    Martin Spolc is the Head of the Sustainable Finance in the European Commission’s Directorate General for Financial Services.
