AIG Global Trade Series Event

Afore Consulting is proud to partner with the AIG Global Trade Series in a discussion on the EU’s future trade policy with Denis Redonnet, Deputy Director General of DG Trade and Chief EU Trade Enforcement Officer, and Members of the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee.

Reinforced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the EU’s trade agenda has highlighted its need to pursue an “Open Strategic Autonomy”, coupled with trade defence mechanisms, by strengthening its independence, whilst remaining a major actor of multilateralism and remaining attractive to foreign investors.  This event is taking place at a timely juncture, with uncertainties remaining around the conclusion by year-end of the EU-China Investment Agreement, and close to the formal Brexit date. It will also take place on the eve of the US Presidential election, with its many uncertainties surrounding the future EU-US relationship.

The AIG Global Trade Series is a collaboration between AIG and international organizations with leading expertise on global trade, including the Institute of International Economic Law, Chatham House, the Clingendael Institute, the International Chamber of Commerce, the National University of Singapore, the Jacques Delors Institute and the Bertelsmann Stiftung. Throughout 2020, AIG is producing a series of podcasts analysing the complex interplay of factors shaping the global trade system; recent editions include “The slow death of multilateralism”, “Europe’s evolving trade agenda” and “Prospects for a UK-US trade deal”.

The discussion will focus on the main findings of the Global Trade Series podcast and brings views from the European Commission, the European Parliament and international trade experts on the EU’s trade policy, the future of multilateralism, reform of the WTO and the impacts of the mounting trade tensions.

This event is by invitation only.
